Santorini Secret Suites & Spa - Hotel Review
Wenn ich an Griechenland denke, kommen mir sofort die Bilder meiner Lieblingsinsel Santorini in den Kopf. Weiße Häuser mit blauen Fensterläden, direkt an der steilen Klippe zum Meer gebaut mit traumhafter Aussicht auf das tiefe Azur, dazu ein wolkenloser Himmel. Ein Ort, wie aus einem griechischen Märchenbuch, welchen ich doch ganz real kennenlernen durfte.
Einige haben bereits auf Instagram die ersten Impressionen meiner Santorini Reise und dem Aufenthalt im Santorini Secret Suites & Spa gesehen, zu welchem ich euch nun die ausführliche Hotel-Review schreibe und hoffentlich das Geheimnis hinter dem Secret Suites & Spa lüften darf.
When I think of Greece, images of my favorite island Santorini immediately come to mind. White houses with blue shutters, built directly on the cliff to the sea with a dreamlike view of the deep azure, as well as a cloudless sky. A place like out of a Greek fairy tale book, which I was allowed to get to know quite real.
Some have already seen on Instagram the first impressions of my Santorini trip and the stay at the Santorini Secret Suites & Spa, to which I now write you the detailed hotel review and hopefully the secret behind the Secret Suites & Spa may be revealed to you.
LOCATION
Im Herzen des schönsten Städtchen der Insel, Oia gelegen, kann man das Santorini Secret Suites & Spa kaum verfehlen. Direkt an der bekannten Fußgängerzone befinden sich die Tore zum schönsten Geheimnis Santorinis und locken bereits mit atemberaubenden Blicken auf private Pool Suiten.
Ein paar Stufen tiefer findet man die Reception des Hotels, wo man bereits liebevoll erwartet wird, einem die Koffer abgenommen werden und der Traumurlaub beginnen kann.
Oia, das bekannte Städtchen im Norden der Insel ist besonders beliebt für die traumhaften Sonnenuntergänge, luxuriösen Einkaufsgassen und einzigartige Aussichten auf die Caldera und das ägäische Meer. Kaum eine andere Insel im Mittelmeer bietet wohl eine vergleichbare Aussicht auf Vulkan, Caldera und das tiefblaue Meer, von welchem vermutet wird, dass sich hier das verschollene Atlantis befindet.
Der Ort ist nicht nur für den tollen Ausblick auf das Insel Archipel bekannt, sondern bietet auch jede Menge Sehenswürigkeiten, wie das Old Castle, welcher ein toller Aussichtspunkt ist, als auch den Zugang zum alten Hafen von Amoundi, welcher nach einer kurzen aber steilen Wanderung von circa 30 Minuten vom Stadtzentrum zu erreichen ist.
Tipp: Wer nach Oia kommt, um tolle Fotos zu machen sollte dies früh morgens tun und das Licht des Sonnenaufgangs nutzen. Abends ist die kleine Stadt sehr voll und die bekannten Foto-Locations mit zahlreichen Touristen überfüllt. Wir sind bereits morgens um 6 Uhr losgezogen und hatten die schönsten Ecken Oias ganz für uns allein - ein einzigartiger Moment.
Alle bekannten Locations in Oia sind einfach und in wenigen Minuten zu Fuß vom Santorini Secret Suites & Spa zu erreichen, daher ist das Hotel der perfekte Ausgangspunkt für einen tollen Aufenthalt in Oia.
Located in the heart of the most beautiful town on the island, Oia, you can hardly miss the Santorini Secret Suites & Spa. Directly on the famous walkway are the gates to the most beautiful secret of Santorini, which already attracts with breathtaking views over the private pool suites of the hotel.
A few steps down you will find the reception of the hotel, where you are already lovingly awaited, your bags are taken care of and your dream vacation can begin.
Oia, the famous town in the north of the island, is especially popular for its beautiful sunsets, luxurious shopping streets and unique views of the caldera and the Aegean Sea. Hardly any other island in the Mediterranean offers a comparable view of the volcano, caldera and the deep blue sea, from which it is assumed that the lost Atlantis is located here.
The place is not only known for the great view of the island archipelago, it also offers a lot of sights, such as the Old Castle, which is a great vantage point, as well as the access to the old port of Ammoundi, which can be reached after a short but steep hike of about 30 minutes from the city center.
Tip: If you come to Oia to take great photos you should do it early in the morning and take advantage of the sunrise light. In the evening, the small town is very crowded and the well-known photo locations are overcrowded with countless tourists. We started shooting already in the morning at 6 o'clock and had the most beautiful corners of Oia all to ourselves - a unique moment.
All the famous locations in Oia are within easy walking distance from Santorini Secret Suites & Spa, which is therefore the perfect starting point for a great stay in Oia.
SUITES
Das Suites-Only Hotel bietet verschiede Suiten-Kategorien, von der Pure-Suite bis zur Honeymoon-Suite ist für jeden Anlass und für jedes Budget etwas dabei. Eines haben jedoch alle Suiten gemeinsam, die einzigartige Aussicht - denn jede Suite hat direkten Blick auf die gesamte Caldera. Vom nord-östlichen Teil (Oia) bis hin zum Leuchtturm im Süden überblickt man den gesamten Kraterrand der Halbmondförmigen Insel. Ebenfalls blickt man auf den Vulkan und die Schwesterninseln Thirasia, Nea Kameni und Palea Kameni. Alle einzelnen Inseln formten einst mal das ursprüngliche Santorini, welches jedoch durch den Vulkanausbruch vor tausenden Jahren in die einzelnen Inseln zerbrochen ist.
The Suites-Only Hotel offers different categories of suites, from the Pure Suite to the Honeymoon Suite, there is something for every occasion and every budget. However, all suites have one thing in common, the breathtaking view - as each suite has a direct view over the entire caldera. From the north-eastern part (Oia) to the lighthouse in the south, you overlook the entire crater rim of the crescent-shaped island. You can also see the volcano and the sister islands Thirasia, Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni. All the individual islands once formed the original Santorini, which, however, is broken by the volcanic eruption thousands of years ago in the separate islands.
Wir verbrachten die ersten beiden Nächte in einer Premium-Suite, welche wie alle anderen Suiten über die Terrasse zugänglich ist. Hier befand sich neben einem gemütlichen Sitzplatz und zwei Sonnenliegen auch der Jacuzzi. Die Suite verfügt über ein sehr geräumiges Badezimmer, dem größten welches ich jemals auf Santorini gesehen habe, ausgestattet mit luxuriösen Hygiene- und Pflegeartikeln, Regendusche und einem Waschbecken aus Vulkangestein. Im Wohnbereich findet man ein King-Size Bed, einen geräumigen Kleiderschrank, sowie eine Sofa und TV-Ecke, getrennt durch einen stylischen Raumteiler. Die meiste Zeit verbrachten wir jedoch auf der Terrasse und im Whirlpool. Die großen und UV-undurchlässigen Sonnenschirme schützen uns vor der starken, griechischen Sonne und machten die heißen Tage sehr angenehm. Hier konnten wir auch am ersten Abend unseren Willkommens-Apero, eine Falsche Champagner und eine Obstplatte genießen. Gibt es einen besseren Start in den wohlverdienten Urlaub? Ich denke nicht.
Für unsere letzten Nächte auf Santorini zogen wir in eine höhere Suitenkategorie, einer Absolute-Suite. Diese verfügt über die gleiche Ausstattung im Badezimmer und Wohnbereich wie die Premium-Suite, ist jedoch größer und besticht mit einer riesigen Terrasse und noch besserer Aussicht auf die Caldera. Besonders die Abendstunden und den baldigen Sonnenuntergang kann man von hier aus in einzigartiger Ruhe und Privatsphäre genießen. Vom ankommenden Trubel in den Hotspots Oia`s bekommt man nichts mit. Wie der Hotelname schon sagt, lebt man hier im Santorini Secret.
We spent the first two nights in a premium suite, which like all the other suites is accessible via the terrace. Here, in addition to a cozy seating area and two sun loungers, was also the Jacuzzi. The suite has a spacious bathroom, the largest I've ever seen on Santorini, equipped with luxurious bath products, rain shower and a volcanic stone sink. In the living area you'll find a king-size bed, a spacious closet, and a sofa and TV corner separated by a stylish room divider. However, we spent most of our time on the terrace and in the hot tub. The large and UV-impermeable sunshades protected us from the strong Greek sun and made the hot days very pleasant. Here we could also enjoy our welcome gift, a bottle of champagne and a fruit platter on the first evening. Is there a better start to a well-deserved vacation? I think not.
For our last nights on Santorini, we moved to a higher suite category, an Absolute Suite. This has the same bathroom and living area amenities as the Premium Suite, but is larger and comes with a huge terrace and even better views of the caldera. Especially the evening hours and the soon sunset can be enjoyed from here in unique peace and privacy. From the incoming hustle and bustle in the hotspots of Oia you get nothing. As the hotel name says, you live here in the Santorini Secret.

FOOD
Das Essen… wohl meine Lieblingskategorie in dieser Hotel-Review, denn ehrlich gesagt weiß ich gar nicht wo ich hier anfangen soll zu schwärmen. Das Essen im Santorini Secret Suites & Spa ist einzigartig. Das Angebot des Hotels von Übernachtung und Frühstück sollte wohl eher in Übernachtung und Brunch umbenannt werden.
Das Frühstück nimmt man auf der privaten Terrasse ein und wird zur gewünschten Uhrzeit von einem der netten Kellner mit einem liebevollen „Kalimera“ serviert. Die Frühstücksauswahl und die Uhrzeit trifft man am Vortag, sodass man morgens, gut ausgeschlafen vom Duft frischen Kaffees geweckt wird. Mit Blick auf die Caldera genießt man also das morgendliche Frühstück, welches aus verschiedenen Eiergerichten, Brot-, Käse- und Wurstauswahl, traditionell griechischen Platten und Säften, Kaffee oder Tee, sowie einer kleinen süßen Nachspeise, wie Kuchen, Pfannkuchen oder Jogurt und Früchten besteht. Auch Sonderwünsche oder vegane Alternativen sind kein Problem und werden von der Küche des Santorini Secret möglich gemacht.
Die morgendliche Ruhe, der frische Kaffee und das leckere Frühstück in einzigartiger Caldera-Kulisse bieten den perfekten Start in den Urlaubstag.
The food... probably my favorite category in this hotel review, because honestly I don't even know where to start raving here. The food at the Santorini Secret Suites & Spa is second to none. The hotel's offer of bed and breakfast should probably be renamed to bed and brunch.
Breakfast is taken on the private terrace and served at your desired time by one of the kind waiters with a lovely „kalimera" (engl. „good morning“). The choice of breakfast and the time is decided the day before, so in the next morning, you are awakened by the smell of fresh coffee. With a grand view over the caldera, you enjoy the morning breakfast, which consists of various egg dishes, bread, cheese and sausage selection, traditional Greek plates and juices, coffee or tea, and a small sweet dessert, such as cake, pancakes or yogurt and fruit. Special requests or vegan alternatives are also no problem and are made possible by the Santorini Secret kitchen.
The morning calm, the fresh coffee and the delicious breakfast in a unique caldera setting guarantee the perfect start to the vacation day.
Abends erwacht das Black-Rock Restaurant zum Leben. Das hoteleigene Restaurant, welches auf der ganzen Insel bekannt ist, bietet internationale, als auch traditionell griechische Küche auf High-End Niveau. Um hier einen Tisch zum Dinner zu ergattern, sollte man diesen rechtzeitig reservieren- wobei hier Reservierungen der Hotelgäste bevorzugt werden.
Mein Favorit ist der Chinoa-Salat und die Bottarga-Pasta mit Seeigel.
Auch von hier aus genießt man wieder den Blick auf den Sonnenuntergang mit einer Flasche guten Wein und dem exzellenten Service.
In the evening, the Black Rock Restaurant comes to life. The hotel's own restaurant, which is known all over the island, offers international as well as traditional Greek cuisine on a high-end level. To get a table for dinner here, you should reserve it well in advance - though reservations from hotel guests are preferred here.
My favorite is the chinoa salad and bottarga pasta with sea urchin.
Again, enjoy the sunset view from here with a bottle of good wine and the excellent service.
POOL & SPA
Neben den privaten Whirlpools und Pools jeder einzelnen Suite bietet das Santorini Secret Suites & Spa auch einen großen Infinitypool für alle Hotelgäste, welcher sich einige Stufen unterhalb der Suiten, auf der gleichen Etage wie das Black Rock Restaurant befindet.
Von der Fußgängerzone Oia`s komplett uneinsehbar, kann man hier also ganz privat -natürlich mit den anderen Hotelgästen- den Tag am Pool verbringen, sich sonnen oder auch im Schatten der großen Sonnenschirme liegen und es sich mit einem der Signature Cocktails an der Poolbar gut gehen lassen und den Blick über die Weiten der Caldera schweifen lassen.
Neben den Sonnenliegen findet man hier auch bequeme „Sunbeds“, auf welchen es sich noch gemütlicher verweilen lässt.

Completely secluded from the walkway of Oia, you can spend the day at the pool, sunbathe or lie in the shade of the large umbrellas and enjoy one of the signature cocktails at the pool bar while looking out over the vastness of the caldera.
In addition to the sun loungers, you will also find comfortable sunbeds, on which it is even more comfortable to linger.
Von dem Poolbereich gelangt man in den Wellnessbereich des Hotels. Komplett in den Vulkanfelsen gebaut, ist das Harmonia-Spa eine Oase der Ruhe und Entspannung. Neben zahlreichen Massagen, wie Ganzkörper-, Rücken- oder Hot-Stone-Massagen werden hier auch Gesichtsbehandlungen, Honig- oder Hydrationsbehandlungen angeboten. Es können aber auch ganz individuell angepasste Behandlungen, abgestimmt auf die Wünsche und Nöte der Gäste zusammengestellt werden um ein einzigartiges Verwöhnerlebnis zu schaffen. Aus Erfahrung empfehle ich euch, gleich für den ersten Tag einen Termin im Spa-Bereich zu vereinbaren, sodass der ganze Stress von der Arbeit und Anreise von euch genommen wird und ihr entspannt in den verdienten Urlaub starten könnt.
From the pool area you enter the wellness area of the hotel. Built completely into the volcanic rock, the Harmonia Spa is an oasis of peace and relaxation. In addition to numerous massages, such as full body, back or hot stone massages, facials, honey or hydration treatments are also offered here. However, it is also possible to arrange completely customized treatments, tailored to the wishes and needs of the guests to create a unique spa experience. From my own experience, I recommend you to make an appointment in the spa area for the very first day for your holiday, so that all the stress from work and travel is taken away from you and you can start your well-deserved vacation relaxed.
FAZIT
Von kaum einem Hotel fiel mir der Abschied bisher so schwer, wie vom Santorini Secret Suites & Spa. Obwohl wir nur 3 Nächte hier verbrachten, fühlte es sich an wie ein zweiwöchiger Urlaub. Die einzigartige Ruhe, fantastischer Service und die herzliche Gastfreundlichkeit, sowie der Ausblick, von welchem man niemals genug bekommt, lassen die Zeit im Hotel zu einem unvergesslichen Aufenthalt werden.
Mein absolutes Highlight ist das grandiose Frühstück, welches man sich selbst zusammenstellen und auf der eigenen Terrasse serviert bekommt. Ganz klar, Service und Kulinarik werden hier groß geschrieben und steht mit an oberster Stelle der Ansprüche der Secret Hotel Group.
Der sorgenfreie Urlaub fängt bereits vor dem Check-In an, wenn man vom Hotel-Shuttle am Flughafen in Santorini abgeholt wird und empfangen wird und endet wohl erst einige Tage nach der Rückreise, wenn man langsam wieder im Alltag ankommt, jedoch noch in den tollen Erinnerungen schwelgen kann.
Kein Wunder, trifft man im Santorini Secret auf zahlreiche Stammgäste, welche Jahr für Jahr zurückkehren. Selbst uns haben die Kellner von unserem letzten Aufenthalt wieder erkannt und es hat sich angefühlt als kehre man zurück in sein griechisches Zuhause - zu welchem auch wir im kommenden Jahr zurückkehren werden.
Hardly any hotel has been as hard to say goodbye to as the Santorini Secret Suites & Spa. Although we only spent 3 nights here, it felt like a two-week vacation. The unique tranquility, fantastic service and warm hospitality of all the staff, as well as the view, of which you never get enough, make the time spent at the hotel an unforgettable stay.
My absolute highlight is the amazing breakfast, which you can put together yourself and is served on your own terrace. Clearly, service and cuisine are written here in capital letters and is one of the top priorities of the Secret Hotel Group.
The carefree vacation begins even before check-in, when you are picked up and welcomed by the hotel shuttle at the airport in Santorini, and probably ends only a few days after the return trip, when you slowly arrive back in everyday life, but can still revel in the great memories.
No wonder, you meet numerous regular guests in the Santorini Secret, who return year after year. Even we were recognized by the staff from our last stay and it felt like returning to your Greek home. To which we will certainly return also in the coming year.
